Szeged Tourism : Szeged Tourism: The Hotel Tisza

The hotel Tisza in Szeged is a throwback to
the days of glamorous travel. The 120 year old hotel is ornate and elaborate, with enormous
chandeliers that light up the corridors. The hotel was built in 1885, and was given the
name Tisza in honor of President Kalman Tisza when it first opened in 1886. The hotel shut
down in 1949, but reopened in July of 1963, after an expensive renovation. The new owners
refurnished the hotel with all the modern conveniences, yet kept its historical atmosphere
in an ambiance reminiscent of the turn of the century. Breakfast is served in a hall
of mirrors, worthy of ver-sigh. The hotel is located on the main square of the city,
just opposite city hall.
