S. Korea admits record number of Chinese tourists from wealthy regions in 2019

this year South Korea has admitted a
record high number of Chinese travelers from economically advanced parts of
China such as Shanghai and Guangdong Province according to the South Korean
consulate in Shanghai more than four hundred six thousand people had applied
for a travel permit as of last Tuesday the figure is up eleven percent on-year
and will have risen even more by the end of this year the total number of Chinese
nationals visiting South Korea this year amounted to roughly 4.4 million as of
the third quarter up twenty seven percent on-year experts attribute the
rise to China easing its retaliatory measures against South Korea over its
deployment of the u.s. anti-missile defense system THAAD as well as Chinese
people traveling more on their own instead of on group tours
