DOMINICAN REPUBLIC. Help and recommendations for the tourist.

Hello!
Hey hey! Hello! We are Alex (Sasha), Alena Do you have alcohol? Because we decided to meet you with alcohol too! We prepared some rum with ice for you!
You can sit here, and I will use the other side. I’ve heard that it’s allowed to drink while driving in the Dominican Republic. Is it true? Yes, as you can see I’m driving. However, I need to use the seatbelt, and it’s not allowed to talk by phone. So, you have to fasten the seatbelt before drinking?
Yes, you are totally right! We are drinking for safety!
I like these rules and conditions! Welcome! Yaaay! We have a toast to tell! Arriba! Abajo! Abajo means down, so you need to move it down. Arriba! Abajo! Al Centro! And Pa Dentro, which means inside! I’m sure you will hear it many times during your trip here… The name of the hotel is CATALONIA GRAN DOMINICUS. How many years do you live here? It will be three years on December 24. And it’s going to be 9 years in my case. How many days are you allowed to stay here as a citizen of Belarus?
I’ve almost received the passport here. You are allowed to stay 30 days, but there’s a way… It’s getting harder now, but previously one was able to pay for the overstay right at the passport control. Right before leaving the country? For example, I stayed here for 2 years, and I had to pay just $200 when I needed to leave the country. There were no issues at all. Are there many Russian people here? Yes, there’s a lot. For example, I hold classes here, and I have a group that consists only of girls from Belarus. So, you don’t work with Russians and Ukrainians… do you? It’s just a matter of fact! Do I have a chance to be in your group? Yes, sure! And one of the girls is from Lidy! Send her my greetings!
Yes, I will for sure. How did you get here? Did you come for a holiday and decided to stay? Or maybe you came to work here…
No, I was an exotic pole dance teacher in Belarus… We checked many studios here, and I decided to work in one. However, many local people are sure that pole dancing and wearing high heels is for wh***s… I was shocked because I never thought it could be like that… I have many girls, who buy private classes to learn how to dance to prepare a gift for their guys. They pay because they don’t want other people to see them dancing in groups! Is Santo Domingo the capital?
Yes, and all the work can be found only there. I would really like to live here on the beach… but… What is the size of it? Is it really big? How many people live there? It’s similar to Minsk… So, it’s around 2 million… Is there any subway?
Yes, there are two lines like in Minsk! There are many people from Haiti. They are everywhere… Their house can even be hidden somewhere in the bushes! They are illegal here, but their labor is cheap, so they are really demanded here. Sometimes they work just for food. It’s normal here to get 8,000 pesos per month. It’s equal to $150. Their monthly salary is equal to my salary for one night of the show. What is the average salary?
It’s hard to tell…
$300, $500 or $1000? What about the majority of people?
The majority earns $250-300 per month… or something around that… They want… Yes, for example, a policeman earns $250 per month. We are at a small local store with various snacks and food. They eat potato chips every single time… They can even start eating before reaching the cashier just to bring an empty bag there… Don’t they want to pay?
They pay every single time. And here you can see their traditional food. They eat chicken. Is it with curry?
No, it’s like KFC, but more in the Chinese style… Here you can see rice, salads, bananas, Yukka and so on… You can choose any option here. You can take some salad or rice if you want. Maybe some fried bananas?
Yes, sure, let’s try… I think they are like bread. Do you want to have a lot of them?
No, no! He knows three, or even four languages! Let’s count: English, Spanish, French, Belorussian and Russian! I use Spanish here, and I talk with my customers mostly in Russian. Belorussian, Russian, Ukrainian, Spanish, English and French! That’s so cool! This is a very tasty soup. It’s called sancocho. There’s a lot of fat inside.
Sasha, if you feel bad in the hotel, we need to ask for sancocho! You can call them and ask.
It contains three types of meat and five vegetables. It’s served with rice and avocado. It’s very fatty, so it helps a lot after alcohol parties. The official rate is 52 peso for $1. You are lucky if you can exchange it for 50… but in the majority of cases, they don’t offer more than 45. If someone offers you 54 for $1, never agree because they will give you fake banknotes. Another strange fact. This is an island and there’s a lot of water around us, but locals don’t eat fish. They eat mostly pork and chicken…
Wow, no way! They also have beef, but it’s very dry, and you have to cook it for hours to prepare something really edible. And no fish at all. However, there are many sorts of it in the sea. Try to find shrimps and local fish called Chiyo. It has a red color and it’s very tasty. They call it Chiyo a la Boca Chica. Or Chiyo Creollo and many other names… It’s my favorite fish. One has to pay from 600 to 1000 for a whole fish, but it’s really worth it. They don’t eat crayfish too. Now it’s the season of crayfish, and you definitely need to try it! And it’s cheap here. Many people come from Russia and they are shocked that one can buy it for $15 here, while it would be worth $100 in Moscow! And locals… Wait, we have to pass the police checkpoint… Locals love chicken and one funny thing called chicharron! The idea is the following. I was ready to vomit when Ilya explained everything for the first time. You will understand it because you are from Ukraine… This is lard… They take the skin of the pig and boil it in oil for 40 minutes. So fat is cooked in fat. They cut it into pieces and add some lemon juice on the top. It’s incredibly tasty, but I couldn’t believe it when I was offered to taste for the first time. We used to live here.
Yes, we lived here with my grandmother… For future trips… You need to find accommodation on Booking and Airbnb and then call me.
He’s able to get almost 50% discount… This building has a pool and an amazing shady area inside.
Wow, sounds great! Last year we did the same. We booked a couple of days and searched for accommodation here. There are two bedrooms, a living room, and a kitchen. The price on the Booking.com was 1,200 Euros, while we managed to convince the owner to accept us for 800 Euros in total. It was 800 Euros for 2 weeks.
Wow! Cool! It was an entire apartment. If you decide to come in the future, think about Juan Dolio. It’s an amazing location with a great beach. It’s safe and quiet here. People don’t suffer from monkeys too. It’s a bit more expensive, but it’s worth it! It’s cheaper than Punta Cana but more expensive than Boca Chica… But I really love to come here for a holiday… This is the old part of Juan Dolio, now we are going to the new one.
If you come here again, you can stay longer, and we have our own tour companies… We have a tour company that sells a 7-day tour. It includes accommodation and food. By doing so, you can discover all parts of the country. This is one of our favorite restaurants. You can go right to the beach. They have a table and all the amenities. They also make fresh food. Another interesting fact. There is a lot of police departments, and each of them is responsible for a specific thing. There are many types of police: touristic, local, national and even so-called DeCrim… DeCrim is responsible for crimes. There’s also economical police, and two departments for small and large amounts of drug trafficking. There’s also road police here. They are independent. If you want to file a complaint, you will walk between them until you are tired and ready to forget about the case. Another interesting fact. If a woman files a complaint against a man, the police will always be on her side. No matter what. There’s also a ministry of women! And this is the residence of the President… This is a heliport… or his parking… The villa is transferred from one president to another. You can see that the road is blocked to avoid traffic here… Danilo Medina Sanchez This is the most popular president for now. Elections will be held the next year… He’s finishing his third term. People love him because he explained to local people the meaning of retirement pension. All companies are obliged to insure their workers now. And he created 5 years of obligatory education. Before, parents were able to teach their children on their own, and there was no rule about that. He’s the coolest and the most popular president in the Dominican Republic. This is Coral Costa Caribe. It’s cheap but located in an amazing place… It’s not luxury, yet nice and close to President. We have a friend, he’s a lawyer and he likes to come here for a weekend. He can pay $80-100 for the entire weekend. He’s a bit old, and we had no chance to spend a holiday with him, but he always praised this place. Local people love to spend time with white people. Russians too. If you can bring a bottle of vodka, you will be considered the best person ever. I found a shop that sells Belorussian vodka: Minskaya and so on… I removed the stamp from it and brought him. He was literally shocked. Do you know Carrefour? It’s an international chain of stores…
He started googling and told me that it was worth $60 in Russia! It was another case…
It doesn’t really matter. These are Russian people… And I can see Zhenya with them too! Hey! Hello! We have reached the house of the girl from Ukraine… We will visit her for a while, and we can move then. Which language?
Russian! They are from New York, from Kyiv, and from Belarus… I’m the person of the World, and I live in the Dominican Republic! So you are more than welcome here! Show us what you got! I have a question. If I want to buy Mama Juana in a restaurant. Is it better to find one with or without leaves? You are going to use it for 7-8 years until roots become black! Which one is the tastiest one?
Yes… let’s do… Cheers! Let’s drink for your and for my health! Festival is carried out every Sunday in a different city. The best one is in La Vega… It’s the third Sunday of the month…
Do they use special costumes? Yes, it looks similar to the Brazilian Carnival. Girls have astonishing clothes.
This is so cool, Sasha! I will send you the video, and you will add… Yes, it takes place in February. However, they don’t dance the samba. They use costumes of the devil… and there are many different groups here. They create something new every year.
It’s not like Halloween… It’s more like a carnival… They represent different schools… and the key problem is the fact that they praise the devil… This is a religious country… We went there once, and both of us were kicked in the ass… It took almost three weeks… I will remember it forever… Ilya had to suffer a lot there…
